The hotel is totally overpriced for what you get. The food is simply bad and the complimentary breakfast consists mainly of frozen bread and buns, something that ought to resemble cheese and ham along with some fruit and pastries. The given voucher is useless as no one even checks if you're entitled to have a complimentary breakfast and if you'd like it to be checked there is rarely anyone at the counter to do so. Needles to say if your booking does not include breakfast it won't be a problem as given the above, you'll be able to have some for free if you like regardless of it included in your room rate or not... The management is utterly understaffed and not attentive. The front desk does not care about what is going on around the Rarotongan until you point it out to them. The rest of the employees seem to wander around without a purpose and it transcends to the level of disorder at the property (hence the breakfast hassle, crumbs on tables and floor everywhere, empty beer bottles on the beach, dirty beach towels, other peoples bar bills added to our room etc.) Although set steps away from a top-notch snorkeling spot, the lack of "give-a-f..k" by the hotel staff made it uneasy to relax as the beach beds had been constantly overtaken by walk-in guests not residing at the Rarotongan. It turned out that it was better to get a budget accommodation nearby and lay on the hotel beach all day rather than pay for the room at the Rarotongan.

More like rarotongan "last" resort. Looks great from the front, that deserves at least one star. I just wish they wouldn't invest 98% of all aesthetic funds on the entrance. A dichotomy of sorts, it reminds me of a half abandoned hospital on a beautiful island that the inhabitants won't touch because of evil spirits. This of course is no thanks to captain Andys that consists of a few picnic tables with tarp-like covers and a McDonald's playground plopped in the middle of an old kiddie pool.

This hotel is in an amazing location, but that is all that it has going for it. The rooms are below standard and the housekeeping is much the same. The staff are mostly friendly but essentially lacking any understanding of customer service. It takes 30 minutes to get served in the restaurant, the food is good, but its not worth waiting for, much better getting out of the hotel onto the island. If this were a budget hotel I would be much more forgiving but this is the worst value for money stay I have had. A shame as the location has potential but the management seem to be either too lazy or too incompetent to sort the problems. In the time we were at the hotel we heard several stories of people whose bookings had been gotten wrong and then the hotel was unable to reaccomodate them, and we witnessed a least one incident of this in the hotel lobby. Also be aware that a beachfront room might mean you are not on the ground floor so make sure you email a few days before if you want to be able to walk straight onto the beach. In summary if you get it cheap and expect a budget experience you will be very happy. If you pay a premium and expect quality service you will be beyond disappointed.
